About Us
The Office of Women's Health, located within the Office of Science Planning and Assessment, plans, assesses, and coordinates NCI programs in Women's Health. Staff participate in strategic planning activities of the NCI by consulting with experts in specific areas of interest and providing technical support to develop and implement programs and policies that will improve the health of women. We collect information and provide a central information resource on NCI research and activities on cancers that affect women solely or have a high impact on women. We also cosponsor activities to explore, assess, and report scientific progress in relevant areas.
Our Mission Is:
- To provide advice and staff support regarding the overall direction and approaches to NCI research programs that relate to women's health
- To establish NCI-wide goals and policies regarding the advancement of research on women's cancers
- To identify women's health research projects within the Institute, encourage increased support of research on women's health, and to assess, review, and monitor the outcomes of that research
- To provide advice to program staff regarding the design of initiatives to encourage the enrollment of women in NCI-supported studies
- To interact with scientific and medical communities and organizations interested in women's health
- To provide a central resource for information about NCI's activities and initiatives in women's health research
- To serve as a liaison to Agency, Department, and Federal Women's Health Programs
